A PECULIAR PEOPLE

As Christians we have been blessed with the great honor and privilege of being servants in Gods kingdom. Peter spoke of this great blessing when he said to the church, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9) It is a great blessing to be a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, and a peculiar people. Are you peculiar?
We are peculiar because we show forth the praises of God. Very few people in this world worship God. Of those who do worship God a much smaller number worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) That means those who worship God like they should are peculiar or unusual people. Let us be true to our Savior and remain a peculiar people when it comes to worshipping God.
We are a peculiar people because we dont live like the rest of the world. The world lives as if life on this earth is all there is to mans existence. For this reason people selfishly pursue their own worldly pleasures. However, Christians should not be like this. Christians do not put the pursuit of wealth first in their lives. Christians do not make material possessions their idols. Christians put nothing above and before their service to God. That makes us a very peculiar people.
We are peculiar because we dont talk like others. We dont tell or laugh at dirty jokes. We dont take Gods name in vain. We dont curse or swear at folks, nor do we speak hastily in anger. We are different. We are peculiar and it shows in our speech, for we will talk to others about true Christianity.
We are a peculiar people because we dont try to side step important Bible truths for the sake of false unity. Many religious folks will compromise the truth for the sake of unity. We wont! We will stand up for the truth and never waver no matter who may be offended by it. This makes us a very peculiar people.
We are peculiar because we dont dress like the rest of the world. The world sees nothing wrong with cheerleaders in mini-skirts, or co-ed swimmers wearing little more than a few strips of cloth. We know it is sinful and immoral. We wont do it and that makes us peculiar.
There is not need for Christians to look for artificial ways to be peculiar. Let us not shave our heads and go live in monasteries. Let us not wear special religious clothing, nor let us spend our lives pretending to be something we are not. All we have to do is obey God and we will be peculiar.
Are you peculiar? If not, you had better get that way.
