WE NEED HELP

by Kevin Rutherford

It is wonderful to watch a child grow, learn, and develop. As long as that child continues to develop as he should we are happy. God is our Father and we are His children. He must surely enjoy watching Christians grow, learn, and develop. As long as we continue to develop spiritually He must be happy (1 Peter 2:1-3).

When little children are growing we will let them do some things by themselves so that that can learn. However, there are some things they cannot do by themselves, so we help them. As Christians and children of God we need help. We need help with temptation. We need help with the difficulties in life. We need help with wisdom. That help is available through Jesus Christ our Brother, and through God our Father (Philippians 4:13; Hebrews 4:14-16; James 1:2-8).

When little children behave in a disobedient fashion they need help. They need to be disciplined by their parents so that they will learn to be self-disciplined. When a Christian’s faith in God grows weak he could use a little discipline from his Heavenly Father. God the Father gives us that discipline (Hebrews 12:3-11).

Children of God need help. Our loving Father stands ready and willing to help us. Don’t be afraid to ask Him for help (Philippians 4:6, 7)
